Security Reminder

BEWARE! Incidents of “IPIT-TAXI HOLD-UP” are currently on the rise in Metro Manila, in fact, we received a report that one of our Globe employee was victimized by this syndicate in Greenhills, San Juan last Friday (01 August 2008) evening.

Based on police files, “Ipit-Taxi Hold-up Gangs,” normally operate with 3-4 members (including the taxi driver as cohort). They usually utilize “worn-down” taxi units and would operate in dimly-lit and isolated areas. Women are their primary targets wherein once inside the cab and after driving for a few meters, members of the gang would immediately hop-in and announce a hold-up.

Tips to Avoid Being Victimized by “IPIT-TAXI HOLD-UP GANG”;

1.   Avoid riding run-down taxis as much as possible, it is better and safer to ride those being operated by big/known cab companies such as MGE, R & E, etc.

2.   Always remember the contact numbers of such taxi firms and try to book a cab you need to bring you home or to any of your destinations. Whenever you book a cab, take down the identity of the taxi such as its name, plate and body numbers.

3.   If you can’t book a cab, wait for taxis in well-lighted and busy areas, or better yet, in the taxi queue in malls and other establishments where Security Guards usually log the cab’s name and plate numbers.

4.   Always share a taxi with a friend and avoid riding alone; if ever you’re riding alone, always lock the cab doors (including the one at the driver’s passenger side).

5.   If ever you feel uneasy in a taxi, ask the driver to stop in a busy place that you know well and get out.

For your guidance.
